PATS PENDING™ is staffed by a sole practitioner, Patricia Costanzo, and a legal assistant. Thus, clients can expect personal attention.  As a patent holder, a patent attorney, and a former USPTO Patent Examiner, the perspectives of both the inventor and the Patent Office are understood.  Moreover, as a sole practitioner, I am available by telephone or e-mail most of the time including weekends and evenings.  Clients can be assured that all of their intellectual property needs can be met as I have established an extended collegial support network including foreign patent and trademark practitioners, patent and trademark searchers, translation services, patent and trademark litigators, and expedited services personnel.

News you should know:   In 2011 the United States Congress rewrote many important parts of our patent law.  The most important being the change from “First to Invent” to “First to File” as the determinant as to who has the right to secure a patent.  These changes were said to be made to bring the U.S. into step with the rest of the patent world and to make the work of the United States Patent and Trademark Office more efficient. But what will the reality be and how will these changes affect small businesses and independent inventors?  Click here for more information.
